Building local visibility through SEO and AEO

Building local visibility through SEO and AEO

Project snapshot

This construction engagement combined SEO with answer engine optimisation (AEO): helping the business become easier to discover in conventional search and in AI-generated answers. During September–October 2026, the work brought together technical improvements, service-led content, FAQs, local search and deliberate content planning for ChatGPT and AI Overviews.

The service focus was clear: balcony work, soft-story retrofitting and seismic topics. A September 25 monitoring capture showed the business appearing in a ChatGPT answer about apartment-balcony repairs. Alongside that discovery milestone, Google later validated Soft 404 fixes affecting three pages. The project connected the content people need, the services the business wants to promote and the places potential customers are searching.

The starting point

A broad construction offering can create many possible content directions. The priority here was to make the business visible for the services it most wanted to grow. That meant looking beyond individual keywords to the questions property owners ask when comparing contractors, understanding a repair or planning work after an inspection.

The website also needed continued technical attention so that useful service information could be found and understood. Indexing, local-profile information and service-area coverage therefore remained part of the same programme as the answer-focused content. SEO and AEO shared a practical goal: connect a relevant customer question with clear information about the business.

1. Build the foundations for search and AI discovery

By the September 9 delivery checkpoint, the team had completed keyword research, Google Search Console and GA4 setup, content updates, page titles and descriptions, FAQs, schema markup, local business-profile optimisation and service-area page work.

These elements served complementary purposes. Page copy and FAQs explained the services and answered practical questions. Service-area content clarified where the business operates, while the local profile added another discovery point. Titles, descriptions and schema provided structured context around the website’s information.

The measurement setup gave the team a continuing view of search performance and website activity. It also helped keep delivery records separate from the later question of whether a change had attracted relevant visits or enquiries.

2. Create content for the questions answer engines receive

The content direction was deliberately specific. At the beginning of September, the team was asked to concentrate on balcony, soft-story and seismic topics while continuing other articles less frequently. A scheduling update the following day confirmed that soft-story and balcony content had been planned for the month.

The team continued blog and local-profile posting during September and into early October. The September search review surfaced visibility around a soft-story retrofitting query and a supporting guide, giving the team relevant topics to examine in subsequent reviews.

A late-September review reinforced the same priority for AI-search work: balcony and soft-story services should remain central. That check was important because an answer about a different construction category could look like visibility progress while doing little to support the current service focus.

3. Treat indexing as a continuing validation process

Technical SEO involved more than recording a fix as completed. The team continued page-indexing work alongside publishing and reporting, and the subsequent Search Console notification supplied a specific external checkpoint.

On October 7, 2026, Google confirmed that the Soft 404 issue had been validated as fixed for three pages. That external confirmation provided a concrete milestone for the technical work.

A separate notification that day identified pages where Google had selected a different canonical URL from the one specified by the site. That issue requires its own assessment. The successful Soft 404 validation does not establish that every page is indexed or that every technical issue has been resolved.

What changed during this phase

The outcomes were a completed set of search foundations, continued service-led publishing, a more explicit focus for AI visibility review and a verified indexing milestone affecting three pages. The monthly review also gave the team a practical next-work list: continue crawl improvements, refine titles and search snippets, and strengthen supporting service content and citations.

Across these engagements, our team has seen increased ChatGPT visibility and leads through AI discovery. For this construction case, the dated recommendation is the specific observed result; the report does not assign individual enquiries to that answer. The next measurement step is to connect relevant AI discovery with source-attributed, qualified enquiries.

Next focus

The next phase prioritises the remaining indexing questions and the service topics already central to the business. Further content and snippet work should be evaluated against comparable reporting periods, with qualified enquiries assessed separately. That keeps the project grounded in the work delivered, the issues Google has actually validated and the business outcomes that can be confirmed over time.

Balcony work, soft-story retrofitting and seismic topics, reflecting the business’s stated priorities.

Yes. A September 25, 2026 monitoring capture included the business in a ChatGPT answer about apartment-balcony repairs after inspections. It documents one relevant recommendation in the monitored answers.

Across these engagements, our team has seen increased ChatGPT visibility and leads through AI discovery. For this case, individual enquiries still need source attribution and qualification to connect them to specific discovery journeys.
